Packing with care
When you are moving and want to save money, the best way to do that is to pack most of your belongings in moving boxes. Begin packing cardboard boxes for your move with your linens, books, shoes and clothes. If you use a professional mover, then let them pack the heavier items like furniture and appliances in larger cardboard moving boxes.
Remember to always pack heavy items in more intact medium boxes. When you pack books, try to put as many books as possible in each moving box to save on space. If you try to pack books in a larger moving cardboard box, then the box will be too heavy to move.Make sure that the moving boxes are no more than forty pounds in weight. You don't want to have to lift anything over that weight to hurt your back.
Use newspaper to wrap any fragile items like glassware, teacups and any breakable things. Pack these carefully in your cardboard box. It will keep them safer because the cardboard box is compact enough to save everything from breaking. However, it still needs to be handled with care during the journey. It might be better to take those things with you when you are going.
When you are lifting your moving boxes, especially those with books, do sot from your knees and not bending your back too low. With the much larger items, let the moving company; use their own dollie or hand truck to carry those. If you are unable to lift the cardboard box, then that means it is too heavy and need to be either repacked to take some things out or use a moving dollie instead.
If you want to load the truck faster, use the dollie because it can take more than one moving boxes to the truck than you would by yourself. It will also prevent any back injury as well. Allow the professional movers to do the job of moving all the boxes if possible.
